House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) announced Thursday evening that the chamber will vote Friday on a final economic stimulus package. Although the bill's total cost was unclear at presstime, discretionary spending accounted for $311 billion, $50 billion less than the House-passed version and $21 billion more than the Senate bill.

Some topline spending figures include $10 billion for Title I education grants, $4.7 billion to deliver broadband technology in underserved areas, and $4.2 billion for the Pentagon's construction and rehabilitation projects. House and Senate leaders signed off on $53.6 billion in funding for the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund, $25 billion less than the House's allocation and $14.6 billion more than the Senate's level.

Other items that found their way onto the final legislation include $1 billion for the Census Bureau to hire additional personnel and improve operations, of which $250 million is directed towards outreach efforts to minority communities and hard-to-reach populations. Negotiators also included $650 million in funding for the digital-to-analog converter box coupon program, $15 million for historic preservation grants for historically black colleges and universities, $25 million for the Smithsonian Institution, and $50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts.
